Astronomy is the name given to the study of all things in space. Astronomers observe the Sun, the Moon, the stars, the planets, asteroids and comets to gain knowledge about what goes on in the skies above you and to further understand our place in the Universe. By reading this website, you are studying Astronomy! The very first people to exist on Earth observed a sky very similar to the sky you see today and came up with their own ideas about what it was that they were looking at. Today, astronomers are able to visit some of the places the first people could only look at. Astronomy has given people a lot of knowledge about the universe - it's answered many questions, but has raised even more!
